Carbon Offsets

We are here to provide Nature-Based Solutions. With a growing interest in Carbon Trade, we are partnering with qualified organizations to reforest large areas of Tanzania – following all best practices laid out by Gold Standard and Verra, in alignment with the Paris Agreement and Carbon Trade verification standards. Our target planting areas are primarily the water sources and watershed areas which have been severely damaged by firewood cutting, overgrazing, and timber cutting. See our projects below.

Current Projects:

  • Sanya River Reforestation. In partnership with Pursuit of Water, Norway, Youth With A Mission Kilimanjaro, and other helpful sponsors, we have fenced and planted nearly 4 kilometers of the Sanya River – which equals tens of thousands of trees! It is fantastic to watch the trees grow and the wildlife return to the river. Getting the community involved has been vital to these projects, including the Maasai who bring their cows and goats by the thousands to water their thirsty animals.  We are so grateful for our partners.
  • Carbon Offsets. We are bridging the Tanzanian government and international partners who are interested in offsetting their carbon footprint. We are currently working on a project to plant 200 hectares (490 acres) of native trees with a French NGO. Our aim is to expand our tree nursery and staff, and then to plant over 160,000 trees.
  • Greenbelts. We are beginning to work with the Districts to plant trees along scenic Highways and main roads for visual resources as well as carbon sinks – helping to “sponge up” air pollutants.
  • Schools. We have donated trees to numerous schools in Hai District and beyond. With those trees comes a great educational component so that the children learn to grow and care for the trees.
  • Churches/Religious institutions. Local churches are another way to plant thousands of trees. Community groups rally the members to have tree planting days. It is exciting to see how they care for God’s creation.
  • Communities. One way we bless the community and government is to donate thousands of trees to local residents. Our dedicated Tanzanian staff are working hard to grow trees year-round to be made available to our neighbors.

How we stand out:

We don’t just plant trees. We nurture them until survival using efficient fencing techniques. Nobody else provides this service. Low cost per tree and high survival rates = long-term success solutions. We plant native species and work within a framework of community-based solutions and verified Carbon Trade monitoring systems such as Verra and Gold Standard. Honesty and integrity are our pillars. Healthy and surviving trees that bless communities are our fruit. Send us an email to learn more: info@trees4kili.org
